Joanna Stern:
Not that I wanted to use the screen to navigate through apps anyway. The $55K Corvette may be a state-of-the-art car, but its touchscreen feels worse than what you’d find on the back of an airplane seat. And at times the system turned sluggish. (This experience makes me understand why Apple would consider building a car of its own.) General Motors Co.’s Chevrolet brand, which builds the Corvette, said too much screen sensitivity can be a safety concern and it is working to improve the user experience all around.
As good as Apple may or may not make the software experience with CarPlay, they can’t control the hardware side of the equation – unless then make their own car. This is the Rokr before the iPhone.
Apple’s definitely going to make a car. Whether they’re going to sell one to the public is a little more questionable, but honestly something that I think is inevitable at this point.
