Daisuke Wakabayashi on the Apple Car project:
The go-ahead came after the company spent more than a year investigating the feasibility of an Apple-branded car, including meetings with two groups of government officials in California. Leaders of the project, code-named Titan, have been given permission to triple the 600-person team, the people familiar with the matter said.
As noted on Twitter a few days back, this is basically the worst-kept secret in Silicon Valley. There are more people working on this project than almost every startup out here. That’s hard to keep under wraps, especially when you have to meet with government/regulatory folks, so assume Apple is just aiming to keep *details* of the project under wraps.
No matter what leaks out and what doesn’t, I am hyped to see what Apple can do with a car. They have tremendous potential to radically change the way we transport and/or commute.
