Tech Room Onesies
Employees working in the cleanrooms at ASML Holding NV’s campus are expected to follow a strict dress code in order to maintain the highest level of cleanliness in Veldhoven, Netherlands, on Thursday, June 5, 2014.
In order to manufacture their highly complex lithography machines - used in the manufacture of computer chips - cleanliness is king and the need for a dirt free environment clearly trumps fashion.
Before entry to the cleanrooms is permitted employees, and visitors, are required to dress head to toe in cleanroom “onesies.“ The added bonus for our photographer was having his cameras treated to a thoroughly deep clean before work could begin.
Cleanroom Facts:
- The room reinforcements have a weight of 2.42 million pounds - the weight of 1000 Landrover Discovery automobiles.
- The steel main structure uses 2,736 tons of steel - the same as half of the Eiffel Tower.
- On average, the air is completely refreshed every booth over 29 times per hour.
